Engineering Manager – Linux Hardware Enablement

About the role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a distributed team that bridges Linux software with next‑generation hardware. The role involves close collaboration with silicon partners to optimise Ubuntu across the full Linux stack, from kernel integration to the desktop experience.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a distributed team delivering high‑quality Ubuntu integrations for IoT, PC, and server‑class platforms.
• Provide technical leadership across the Linux stack, implementing hardware enablement, new features, and performance improvements.
• Build and maintain relationships with commercial and technology partners, aligning technical and business priorities.
• Oversee partner engagements, ensuring milestones are met with strong quality and reliability.
• Coach, mentor, and develop engineers through feedback, guidance, and career development.
• Collaborate with internal engineering and product teams to align architecture, roadmaps, and execution.
• Foster a collaborative, high‑performing engineering culture and drive continuous improvement.
• Travel internationally for team and company events up to twice per year.

Required profile

• Professional experience with Linux distributions, especially Ubuntu or Debian, and Debian packaging.
• Background working with high‑performance server‑class hardware, modern PC, or IoT platforms.
• Proven experience managing or technically leading software engineering teams.
• Strong software engineering foundation capable of providing credible technical leadership.
• Experience interacting directly with customers or external partners to diagnose challenges and deliver solutions.
• Understanding of agile software development methodologies.
