Senior Java Software Engineer – Payments

About the role

Join Luminor as a Senior Software Engineer focused on Payments. You will design and build secure, reliable, and scalable backend services that support the full customer payment journey across the Baltics.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Java and Spring Boot backend services.
• Build secure REST APIs and event‑driven integrations using Apache Kafka.
• Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions.
• Translate complex business needs into clear, maintainable solutions.
• Own solutions throughout their lifecycle, from design to production support.
• Apply Luminor engineering, security, and quality best practices.
• Improve automated testing, observability, and production readiness.
• Review code and technical designs, sharing knowledge with peers.
• Leverage AI‑assisted engineering tools across the software delivery lifecycle.
• Collaborate closely with product owners, architects, engineers, and business stakeholders.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing distributed, event‑driven or high‑volume transactional systems.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, microservices, APIs and integration patterns.
• Ability to evaluate options, explain trade‑offs and make pragmatic design decisions.
• Experience with Kafka or comparable messaging technologies.
• Practical cloud experience, preferably AWS.
• Experience with relational databases and transaction consistency.
• Understanding of secure development, automated testing, CI/CD and observability.
• Proficiency with AI coding assistants and engineering agents, ensuring validation and security.
• Strong ownership mindset and accountability for delivered solutions.
• Excellent communication and knowledge‑sharing skills.
• Fluent English, both spoken and written.
