Forward Deployed Embedded Engineer
NestAI · Tallinn
Job description
About the role
NestAI builds an adaptive operating system for modern battlefield operations, with AI that continuously learns from operational data and adapts to changing conditions in environments with no internet, no GPS and no margin for error. The company is looking for an experienced Forward Deployed Embedded Engineer, a Python and C++ generalist who works close to the hardware and thrives in dynamic, customer-facing settings. The engineer is embedded in customers' development environments, helping shorten the path from development to fielded capability.
Key responsibilities
- Integrate, adapt and validate the platform with customer teams against real operational requirements.
- Write efficient Python and C++ code, making trade-offs around memory and power as the deployment context demands.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to speed up and improve coding.
- Collaborate with the testing team and customer stakeholders to validate and iterate on platform performance.
- Integrate with sensors and microcontrollers as needed so the software works reliably with the physical systems it is deployed on.
Required profile
- Solid experience (at least 3 years) in embedded or systems-level software development.
- Ability to work independently in ambiguous, fast-changing environments and adapt to customer needs.
- A strong mindset for AI-assisted programming, having already adapted AI tools into daily workflow.
- Team player who works iteratively with development, testing and customer stakeholders.
- Experience in robotics, autonomous systems or industrial automation is a plus; strong engineering judgment matters more than deep low-level optimization expertise.
Required skills
- General proficiency in Python and C++, with comfort working close to the hardware.
- Robot Operating System (ROS) experience.
What we offer
- Employee Stock Option Program (ESOP).
- Occupational healthcare (provided through Deel).
- Possibility to expense €200 annually for sports, culture, commuting and wellbeing.
- Mental wellbeing services via Auntie.
- Choice of Mac or PC and work phone.
- Company events and the possibility to expense lunch every other Friday.
The role may require a security clearance, standard for defence industry positions in Estonia, and you can start before it is finalised. Relocation support is considered on a case-by-case basis. Applications are submitted through the company's application channel, not by email.
