Lead Software Engineer

About the role

Luminor is expanding its internal engineering capacity and is looking for a Lead Software Engineer in Tallinn. You will shape the technical direction of the bank's integration and platform landscape, combining hands-on engineering with technical leadership. The role works with Java 21, Spring Boot, Kafka, AWS and modern engineering practices, guiding architecture decisions, mentoring engineers and helping set engineering excellence across teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and evolution of integration and platform services across all business streams
• Define architectural standards, engineering best practices and technical roadmaps for Java-based solutions
• Design, implement and improve messaging, APIs, service-to-service communication, file exchange and workflow management solutions
• Lead the adoption of event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka
• Provide technical leadership across the full software development lifecycle, from design to production operations
• Mentor engineers and review architecture proposals, designs and code for quality, security, performance and maintainability
• Partner with architects, product owners, engineering teams and business stakeholders, and lead Proof of Concepts and technology evaluations
• Identify technical risks, support complex troubleshooting and contribute to platform modernization and cloud transformation in an Agile environment

Required profile

• Extensive hands-on experience in software engineering with Java (preferably Java 21) and Spring Boot
• Proven experience designing and delivering complex distributed, event-driven systems with Apache Kafka or similar
• Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers
• Fluent spoken and written English, as the role is Pan-Baltic level
• Primarily a candidate already located within the Baltics; apply with a CV in English and PDF format by November 8th

• Gross salary of 4,200 - 6,600 EUR per month, depending on experience and competencies
