Power Trader – Renewable Energy Assets

About the role

Sunly is looking for a Power Trader to join its Energy Trading team and actively manage and optimise its growing portfolio of solar, wind and battery storage assets across electricity markets. The trader prepares and executes day-ahead bids, monitors and optimises positions in intraday and balancing markets, and helps build the in-house trading desk's strategies, tools and ways of working.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and execute day-ahead bids based on production forecasts, asset availability and trading strategy.
• Monitor, manage and optimise positions across intraday and balancing markets (mFRR, aFRR, FCR), controlling imbalance costs and risks.
• Build trading tools and algorithmic strategies with the Head of Trading Desk, Forecast Engineer and IT, from backtesting to live deployment with fallback procedures.
• Automate recurring manual processes using AI and other practical tools.
• Trade within agreed risk limits, escalate breaches and follow market rules and internal procedures; take part in on-call and weekend rotations.
• Monitor, analyse and explain daily trading P&L, ensure accurate trade data for settlement and resolve discrepancies.

Required profile

• 1-5 years of professional experience, ideally in an analytical, technical, financial or trading-related role.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, with confidence working with data, models and algorithms.
• Ability to work with code and an interest in developing automated solutions.
• Quick decision-making in fast-moving situations, with a strong sense of ownership and independence.
• Nice to have: previous experience in energy trading, financial markets or portfolio optimisation, and understanding of day-ahead, intraday and balancing electricity markets.
