Senior Software Engineer - Finance Core Accounting

About the role

Wise is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (IC3) to join its Core Accounting team in Finance, based in Tallinn. The team runs financial accounting, business monitoring and financial reporting for Wise, handling over 1 billion ledger entries per month. You will shape and deliver key initiatives such as the ledger-as-a-service, the aggregation pipeline and third-party integrations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and test applications using Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Kafka and React in a microservices environment
• Contribute to the ledger-as-a-service, the aggregation pipeline and third-party integrations, and learn how third-party systems are integrated
• Work cross-functionally in squads to make ledger and financials more timely, accurate and controlled
• Create clear, consistent, maintainable and performant interfaces
• Collaborate with product teams to identify and prioritise requirements, and write clean, documented code
• Take part in code reviews, team ceremonies and planning cycles
• Lead the technical roadmap and deliverables for large initiatives (8+ engineering weeks), build scalable backend services and APIs, and ensure availability, reliability and security
• Mentor engineers, lead onboarding, and promote observability, security, database usage and testing

Required profile

• Expert-level knowledge of backend technologies, with full-stack capability
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices and system design
• Proven ability to coach and mentor engineers
• Experience owning large projects and designing scalable systems
