Senior Software Engineer - Send High Volume

About the role

The Send High Volume team at Wise supports customers sending large amounts of money internationally, such as relocators, investors and businesses. This full-time Senior Software Engineer role owns the technical design and delivery of large, high-stakes projects and stays accountable for what is built long after launch. It is backend-focused and AI-first, spanning the whole company.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the technical design of large projects: break ambiguous problems into milestones, write and review RFCs, and make technical decisions.
• Build reliable, secure, API-first solutions with clean, documented interfaces in the existing microservices architecture using Java/Spring, Kafka and relational databases.
• Own production systems: set standards for observability and testing, take part in the on-call rota, lead incident response and post-mortems, and reduce tech debt.
• Mentor and coach engineers, onboard new hires, share knowledge and interview regularly.
• Shape the roadmap with product-minded feedback and work closely with product, design, analytics and operations.

Required profile

• Expert backend engineer with strong distributed-systems fundamentals, able to reason about consistency, idempotency and failure modes.
• Significant contributions to large projects, owning design and deliverables through launch and beyond.
• Product mindset: explains the customer problem, uses data to decide, and gives strong feedback on the roadmap.
• Makes colleagues better through mentoring, code review and documentation; communicates clearly across teams.
• Keeps up with new tools, experiments regularly and already uses AI to boost productivity.

What we offer

• Compensation of EUR 69,000 to 85,000 plus RSUs.
