Senior Software Engineer - Verification Platform

About the role

Veriff is an AI-powered identity verification platform that uses image recognition, facial verification, face recognition, liveness detection and behaviour analysis to help partners build secure onboarding flows. The Verification Platform team owns the workflow orchestration engine and the automated verification decisioning pipeline used by other product teams. The Senior Software Engineer designs, builds and operates the backend services of this platform, with a focus on reliability, scalability and maintainability.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate the backend services, including the orchestration engine and the automated decisioning pipeline
• Deliver orchestration features such as multi-method flow execution, branching and fallback logic, and webhook integrations
• Improve resilience of production-critical systems: backpressure and idempotency handling, backwards-compatibility testing, SPOF elimination and end-to-end monitoring
• Take part in on-call rotations, incident response and postmortems
• Drive engineering quality through code reviews, CI practices, runbook documentation and mentoring teammates

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience building large-scale backend applications with Python, including event-driven and async architectures with message queues (e.g. SQS or similar)
• Proven ownership of production-critical services and understanding of on-call responsibilities
• Deep experience designing resilient distributed systems: idempotency, backpressure, retries and backwards compatibility
• Strong understanding of modular design and SOLID principles
• Hands-on experience building scalable, maintainable APIs
• Familiarity with structured logging and observability practices
• Strong communication skills with engineers and non-engineers alike
