Tech Lead (Java) - Payments and Cash Management
Luminor Group · Tallinn
Job description
About the role
Luminor, the leading independent bank in the Baltics, is looking for a Tech Lead to join its Payments and Cash Management Engineering area. The role suits someone who enjoys complex backend systems, architecture, integrations and event-driven design, and wants to help modernize cash management capabilities used by corporate customers across the Baltics. The position is open to candidates primarily already located within the Baltics.
Key responsibilities
- Design and build Java/Spring Boot back-end services for complex banking flows.
- Create REST API and event-driven integrations between internal banking platforms, data platforms and external systems.
- Work with Kafka for asynchronous events, data feeds and system-to-system communication.
- Design reliable flows around account lifecycle, payment initiation, routing, validation, balances, statements and customer-facing processes.
- Use AWS, CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring and production-readiness topics.
- Work with relational databases and ensure data consistency, auditability and recovery.
- Modernize legacy capabilities into a more maintainable, cloud-ready setup and make technical decisions on correctness, security, resilience and stability.
- Lead technical design, guide developers through code and design reviews, and drive clean code, testability, monitoring, security and maintainability.
- Work with product owners, architects, developers, platform teams, business stakeholders and vendors, and use AI tools pragmatically.
Required profile
- Strong hands-on back-end engineering experience; Java and Spring Boot as a solid base.
- Experience with architecture, system design and complex integrations.
- Ability to lead developers technically, not only manage tasks.
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders and an ownership mindset.
- Fluent English, spoken and written, due to Pan-Baltic work.
- Banking, payments, finance or regulated-domain experience is a strong advantage; data-platform experience and practical AI experience are a plus.
Required skills
- Java 21+, Spring Boot 3+
- Kafka or similar event streaming
- AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Helm, GitLab CI/CD
- PostgreSQL, Oracle
- React, TypeScript, micro-frontend architecture
What we offer
- Gross salary of 5,200-6,900 EUR per month, depending on experience and competencies.
- Flexible working hours, hybrid work and the option to work from anywhere in the EU, Iceland, Switzerland and the UK (up to 90 days per year).
- Additional vacation weeks for employees with 1 year or more of service, volunteer time off, and 30 fully paid calendar days for military training.
- Health insurance after the first 3 months in all three Baltic states and health days.
- Internal and external training, LinkedIn Learning, workshops and conferences.
- Special offers on Luminor products and services.
The application deadline is 1 November; apply with a CV in English and PDF format.
