Engineering Lead - Business Operations Tooling

About the role

The Engineering Lead will own the technical architecture and delivery of internal tooling that empowers Wise’s Operational teams. Working closely with product, design and analytics, you will drive the creation of scalable, automated solutions that improve data centralisation and workflow efficiency. You will also be responsible for hiring the engineers needed to execute the roadmap.

Key responsibilities

• Define the technical approach for building tools, balancing short‑term wins with long‑term initiatives.
• Participate actively in product definition and roadmap planning.
• Lead, mentor and grow a team of individual‑contributor engineers, ensuring code quality and timely project completion.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional teams (design, product, analytics) to integrate and deliver tooling solutions.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading and mentoring software engineers.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across multiple functions.
• Background in backend engineering and system architecture with a track record of delivering scalable internal tools.
• Experience designing complex systems, handling databases and creating APIs.
• Familiarity with asynchronous messaging and conflict resolution.
