Lead Software Engineer (Java, Kafka, AWS)

About the role

Luminor, the leading independent bank in the Baltics, is expanding its internal engineering capacity during its transformation. As a Lead Software Engineer you will shape the technical direction of the integration and platform landscape, combining hands-on engineering with technical leadership. You will design and deliver scalable, resilient, cloud-native solutions using Java 21, Spring Boot, Kafka and AWS, and guide architecture decisions and mentor engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and evolution of integration and platform services across all business streams
• Define architectural standards, engineering best practices and technical roadmaps for Java-based solutions
• Design and improve messaging, APIs, service-to-service communication, file exchange and workflow management
• Lead the adoption of event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka
• Guide the full software development lifecycle, from design to production operations
• Mentor engineers and review architecture proposals, designs and code for quality, security, performance and maintainability
• Partner with architects, product owners and business stakeholders, lead Proof of Concepts and technology evaluations
• Identify technical risks, support troubleshooting and contribute to platform modernization and cloud transformation

Required profile

• Extensive hands-on experience in software engineering with Java (preferably Java 21) and Spring Boot
• Proven experience delivering complex distributed, event-driven systems with Apache Kafka or similar
• Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers
• Fluent English, spoken and written, as the role works at Pan-Baltic level

What we offer

• Gross salary of 4,200 - 6,600 EUR per month, depending on experience and competencies
