Senior Software Engineer - Support Tooling

About the role

Wise is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Support Tooling team in Tallinn. The team builds and maintains the systems that let Customer Support agents help millions of customers efficiently, reliably and at scale. You will own the core tooling used by support agents, working on a complex, distributed Java system and partnering with Product colleagues to shape the future of agent tooling.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve a complex Java backend system, taking responsibility for technical decisions, development, testing and deployment.
• Solve distributed-systems challenges involving concurrency, service-to-service communication, data consistency and reliability.
• Improve the tools used by Customer Support agents so they can resolve issues more efficiently.
• Drive technical improvements and manage tech debt, balancing new features, maintenance and long-term system health.
• Partner with Product Managers and operational stakeholders to understand problems, influence priorities and help shape the roadmap.
• Contribute to the user experience by working with React where needed to improve agent interfaces and workflows.
• Take end-to-end ownership of engineering initiatives, from identifying opportunities to production delivery.

Required profile

• Strong hands-on Java experience building and maintaining complex backend systems in production.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex technical problems.
• Strong product mindset, with decisions based on customer impact.
• Pragmatic approach to technical debt and feature development.
• Strong communication skills and collaboration with Product Managers, operational teams and non-technical stakeholders.
• Nice to have: experience with backend-heavy products, internal tools, and hands-on React experience.

Required skills

• Distributed systems and asynchronous communication, including Kafka and service-to-service integrations.
• Concurrency and parallel processing, including thread safety, distributed locking and eventual consistency.
• React (nice to have).

• Salary of EUR 5,750 to EUR 7,083 gross per month (EUR 69,000 to EUR 85,000 per year).
