Software Engineer, Factory

About the role

Swappie refurbishes iPhones, iPads, AirPods and MacBooks in its own factories in Tallinn and Leipzig, and wants a Software Engineer for its Factory product team in Tallinn. The team builds the software that operations teams use to receive, diagnose, repair, grade and pack devices, and the integrations with automation lines, robots, label printers and diagnostics tools. Most of the work is research and scoping before any code is written, together with product people, peers, automation operators, vendors and factory-floor staff.

Key responsibilities

• Research and scope problems by observing the factory floor and talking to operators, and define changes with product, peer teams, automation operators and vendors.
• Bring new device categories such as MacBooks through the factory: activation, diagnostics, grading, sorting and packing.
• Keep automation lines healthy with alerts and health dashboards used in daily stand-ups.
• Integrate robots and third-party diagnostics and erasure tools with internal systems.
• Work on station hardware: label printers, barcode and serial scanners, station PCs and robot configuration.

Required profile

• Solid backend experience, ideally Python and Django, and comfort owning systems in production.
• Good PostgreSQL skills, including debugging slow queries on large tables.
• Experience integrating with external systems or devices and handling their failures.
• Curiosity about hardware and research before building; fluent English and clear communication with non-technical colleagues.
• Valid work permit for Estonia; visa sponsorship and relocation support are not available.

• Salary of 3,950-4,450 EUR per month plus an equity package, depending on experience and skills.
