Software Engineer (Rust/C++)

About the role

Bisly, the Estonian market leader in smart building solutions, is looking for a Software Engineer to help build its house server, which ties together thousands of connected devices and runs various systems and integrations. The engineer takes technical ownership of projects and helps decide how the architecture grows as the company expands into new markets.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain high-performance, scalable backend services in C++ and Rust.
• Take technical ownership of projects and define the data strategy and synchronization between systems.
• Optimize system performance and debug complex issues such as memory, concurrency and I/O.
• Design and develop APIs for local and cloud-based services, and set a standard for clean, well-tested code.
• Develop and deploy software for cloud and local environments.
• Evaluate, integrate, deploy and optimize AI tools and services to support product innovation.
• Mentor colleagues and help shape how the team works.

Required profile

• Several years of experience building backend or systems software, preferably in agile environments.
• Strong sense of teamwork in fast-moving, cross-disciplinary work.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, network protocols and asynchronous runtimes.
• Experience designing and consuming APIs (REST, gRPC or similar).
• Hands-on AI experience: integrating, deploying or building AI-powered systems.

Required skills

• Strong Rust and/or modern C++ skills; people eager to go deeper into Rust are welcome.
• Experience with database engines (MariaDB, Postgres, NoSQL).
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and on-premise/local server environments.
