Staff Data Engineer

About the role

Overstory is building an AI‑powered platform to analyze vegetation risks for electric utilities, helping prevent wildfires and outages. As a Staff Data Engineer you will lead the design and scaling of the data platform that moves massive satellite imagery, model inferences, and utility network data through reliable pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and evolve the orchestration layer, including asset graphs, quality checks, and partitioning strategies.
• Design, build, and maintain production data pipelines for large‑scale geospatial and temporal data from ingestion to delivery.
• Lead system‑design work across the data platform, defining service boundaries, data contracts, and handling failure modes.
• Drive a shift toward service‑oriented architecture and build event‑driven workflows using durable messaging patterns.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience designing and building production‑grade data pipelines and systems.
• Deep hands‑on experience with Dagster (or comparable orchestration tools such as Airflow or Prefect).
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and lead architectural discussions in a remote‑first, globally distributed team.
