VoIP / PBX Engineer

About the role

pawaTech, an iGaming solutions provider behind betPawa, is looking for an experienced VoIP / PBX Engineer to take technical ownership of its voice communication infrastructure across several African markets. The role covers maintaining and improving existing telephony systems and plays a key part in evaluating, selecting and implementing a new PBX solution, working with internal technical teams, local telecom providers and external vendors.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate PBX solutions, compare vendors and take part in selecting a replacement for the current platform
• Plan and lead the technical implementation and migration to a new PBX, keeping business disruption to a minimum
• Design, configure and maintain VoIP infrastructure, including PBX platforms, SIP trunks, gateways and integrations with local telecom providers
• Work with local IT teams, telecom operators and vendors to set up and maintain reliable voice connectivity
• Troubleshoot telephony issues such as call routing, registration, connectivity, audio quality and performance
• Collaborate with Network, DevOps and IT Operations teams on connectivity, security and integration needs
• Monitor voice services, identify risks and improve reliability and operational visibility
• Document telephony architecture, configurations, operational procedures and troubleshooting guidelines

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience with VoIP, PBX, telecommunications or similar infrastructure
• Hands-on experience configuring, administering and troubleshooting PBX systems
• Ability to evaluate technical solutions, communicate with vendors and take ownership of technical challenges
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with distributed teams
• Good communication skills and English proficiency

Required skills

• VoIP technologies and protocols: SIP, RTP, SRTP and SIP trunking
• Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, NAT, firewalls, VPNs, QoS and network security
• Investigating issues with logs, network captures and diagnostic tools
• Nice to have: Asterisk, FreeSwitch, 3CX, HoduCC, cloud PBX migration, FortiGate, contact center features (IVR, call queues, call recording)
