Security Engineer – Hardware Product Security & R&D

About the role

Nortal's Applied Defence R&D team is looking for a Security Engineer to design, develop and validate secure hardware‑based products and prototypes. You will work across hardware, firmware and embedded software, embedding security from early design through testing on physical devices.

Key responsibilities

• Drive security‑by‑design for hardware products, embedded systems and integrated hardware‑software solutions.
• Perform threat modelling and risk analysis for devices, components, interfaces and firmware.
• Define and implement hardware and firmware security controls such as secure boot, roots of trust, key protection and secure update mechanisms.
• Assess attack surfaces including debug ports, physical access points, communication interfaces and firmware update paths.
• Plan and execute security testing, hardening and validation of prototypes and product components.
• Collaborate with systems, software, electronics and mechanical engineers to integrate security requirements into product designs.

Required profile

• Strong background in cybersecurity, embedded systems, electronics or secure product engineering.
• Hands‑on experience bringing hardware products or complex prototypes from design to tested implementation.
• Familiarity with defence, critical‑infrastructure or multi‑partner R&D projects is a plus.
