FinCrime Investigator - Fraud

About the role

Wise is hiring a FinCrime Operations Investigator to safeguard the company and its customers from financial crime. You will investigate and analyse customer accounts, transactions and platform activity to detect and prevent money laundering, fraud and other illicit activity, in line with AML/CTF regulations and Wise's risk appetite.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate suspicious activity using internal and external data sources, and analyse transactions and customer behaviour to spot money laundering, fraud or other financial crimes.
• Evaluate alerts from transaction monitoring systems and detection tools, and gather supporting documentation such as KYC information and transaction records.
• Prepare detailed investigation reports with findings and recommendations, and act as escalation point for complex cases from other operations teams.
• Mentor and train colleagues, and collaborate with product and engineering teams to improve fraud detection rules and processes.
• Stay up to date on FinCrime trends, typologies and regulatory changes, and liaise with financial institutions and law enforcement when needed.
• Communicate with customers through approved channels to obtain details for reviews, while keeping contact minimal and efficient.
• Meet KPIs, SLAs and QA targets, keep accurate records, and take part in ad-hoc projects, process improvement and training.

Required profile

• Strong English verbal and written communication; additional languages are a plus.
• Proven ability to investigate objectively, analyse complex data and document clearly.
• Ability to work independently and handle flexible hours, including shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Nice to have: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Law or Criminal Justice; 2+ years in operations, compliance or financial crime; CAMS, CFCS, ICA or similar certification; SQL or data analysis tools; experience in a global financial institution or fintech.
