RTL Design Engineer (VHDL / FPGA)

About the role

Golbriak Space is looking for an RTL design engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team building optical telecommunication systems for space, airborne and ground applications. The role is full-time, primarily onsite in Tallinn, Estonia, starting as soon as possible. It is aimed at junior-to-mid-level engineers, but more experienced candidates who enjoy hands-on engineering in a fast-moving deep-tech startup are also welcome.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and improve RTL modules in VHDL and implement high-speed digital logic for communication systems
• Create simulations and testbenches, and verify designs against technical and system requirements
• Debug and validate FPGA designs on physical hardware, support board bring-up and hardware integration
• Work with LVDS, Ethernet and other high-speed interfaces, and integrate Altera FPGAs with STM32 microcontrollers via CAN
• Use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies and multimeters, and support system-level testing and product qualification
• Contribute to custom software-defined radio integration and coordinate with electronics, embedded software and systems engineers
• Maintain FPGA architecture, interface, verification and code documentation

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electronics, computer engineering, telecommunications or a related technical field
• At least one year of practical RTL or FPGA development experience; practical RTL design experience is essential
• Structured approach to verification, debugging and documentation, able to work independently and adapt to a startup environment
• Professional English at C1 level or equivalent

Required skills

• VHDL and RTL design, including long high-speed processing pipelines
• FPGA debugging on physical hardware and understanding of clock recovery and high-speed data paths
• Nice to have: Altera FPGA platforms, Quartus, GHDL, GTKWave, LVDS, Ethernet, PCIe, digital signal processing, FPGA-based software-defined radio, and experience in telecommunications, aerospace or defence
