Software Engineer - Backend

About the role

Helsing, a defence‑AI company, is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join its European teams. You will help build AI‑driven capabilities and the infrastructure that enable semi‑autonomous platforms to perceive, navigate and act in real‑time under demanding technical constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain backend services for distributed, resource‑constrained environments.
• Collaborate on code reviews, RFCs and proposals, prioritising unblock‑ing teammates.
• Develop algorithms and infrastructure across domains such as networking, security, robotics and machine‑learning model handling.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to cross‑team technical discussions.
• Translate research findings into production‑ready software.

Required profile

• Strong problem‑solving mindset with a passion for tackling complex, high‑risk systems.
• Experience working on low‑latency, low‑bandwidth or air‑gapped deployments.
• Ability to operate in interdisciplinary teams and communicate technical ideas clearly.
• Commitment to ethical AI development in defence contexts.
