Sr Software Engineer - Screening Engine

About the role

Wise is looking for a senior software engineer to join the Screening Engine team. You will be a key technical contributor building high‑throughput, low‑latency services that support compliance, risk and operations functions.

Key responsibilities

• Take end‑to‑end ownership of screening engine projects, from design through deployment and post‑release monitoring.
• Identify risks early, drive resolution and ensure the system remains scalable and defensible under regulatory scrutiny.
• Shape the product roadmap for sanctions, PEP and adverse‑media screening, using data to improve matching algorithms.
• Design and evolve fault‑tolerant distributed systems, improve observability, reliability and maintainability.
• Lead code reviews, mentor teammates and collaborate across compliance, risk and operations.

Required profile

• Strong technical depth with experience delivering production‑grade microservices.
• Ability to balance risk reduction, operational scalability and growth while keeping customer experience central.
• Product instinct and a drive to influence roadmap, not just ship code.
