Senior Software Engineer I

About the role

Checkout.com is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to lead and drive specific projects critical to its needs, with opportunities to switch teams and projects as the business grows. Engineers are expected to be versatile, show strong leadership qualities and take on new problems across the full stack. You will lead project priorities, deadlines and deliverables, and design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and enhance software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, across a large engineering community.
• Define and design loosely coupled, scalable systems in a wider microservices architecture using industry best practices.
• Stay up to date with, use and share knowledge of the latest technologies used by Checkout.
• Write clean, maintainable, extendable and testable code on some of Checkout's most impactful systems.
• Build, own and operate your systems to the highest levels of resilience and service.
• Mentor junior team members and help with their technical development.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Great communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Experience working in agile environments and delivering high-quality code within tight deadlines.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• AI proficiency or curiosity, eager to use the latest technology to improve productivity.
• Payments or financial knowledge is a plus but not necessary.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java, with a strong understanding of software development principles in a backend or full-stack environment.
• Microservices architecture.
