Software Engineer - AML Risk

About the role

Wise is looking for a Software Engineer to join its AML Squad and help build systems and controls that detect money laundering and terrorist financing risks across Wise's products and regions, while reducing false alerts and keeping the experience smooth for legitimate customers. The AML Risk team owns components and medium-sized projects and works closely with product managers, data scientists, analysts and AML subject matter experts.

Key responsibilities

• Build and improve AML detection controls and the systems that support them, working end-to-end from design to deployment and ongoing support.
• Write well-tested, maintainable code safe to run in production, using data to understand problems, validate solutions and measure outcomes.
• Take part in code reviews, improve documentation and contribute to team engineering standards.
• Design and build with scalability, observability, privacy, security, reliability and cost in mind.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, analysts and AML experts to turn risk understanding into effective controls, and communicate progress, risks and trade-offs clearly.

Required profile

• 2-5 years of experience building backend, distributed or data-intensive systems.
• Able to deliver medium-sized projects independently, with good judgment on scope and quality.
• Comfortable with production systems, including testing, monitoring and operational ownership.
• Strong fundamentals in maintainable code and collaboration through code review.
• Product mindset: understands how engineering work affects customers and the business, uses data to inform decisions and welcomes feedback.

Nice to have: experience with AML / financial crime, and experience running machine learning and/or large language models in production.

• Starting salary of EUR 4,250 to 5,750 gross per month plus Restricted Stock Units.
