Estonian Language Expert (AI Training Content)
SME Careers
Job description
About the role
SME Careers, a fast-growing AI data services company and subsidiary of SuperAnnotate, is hiring an Estonian Language Expert (SME) as an hourly, remote contractor. You will review AI-generated Estonian content and/or create high-quality Estonian reference content, evaluating language quality and step-by-step reasoning and giving precise written feedback. Your work helps make AI models' Estonian output more natural, reliable, culturally accurate and clearly written.
Key responsibilities
- Create prompts and gold-standard Estonian answers across domains such as general knowledge, customer support, education, conversational writing, translation, localization and culturally sensitive content.
- Evaluate and rank AI outputs to improve fluency, correctness, tone match, register consistency, meaning preservation, terminology quality and cultural appropriateness.
- Detect unsafe or misleading content, factual hallucinations, bias, mistranslations, ambiguity, policy-risk language and culturally inappropriate phrasing, and validate reliability across use cases.
- Fact-check claims when needed, write high-quality rewrites and model answers, and rate and compare multiple AI responses.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Linguistics, Estonian Language, Estonian Literature, English Literature, Communications, Journalism, Translation or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 3+ years of professional experience in writing, editing, localization, translation, content QA, journalism, education or related language-focused work.
- Reliable, self-directed and able to deliver consistent quality in an hourly, remote contractor workflow across time zones.
- Prior experience with AI data training/annotation, translation QA, editorial QA, localization QA or rubric-based evaluation is strongly preferred.
Required skills
- Native or near-native Estonian with strong reading and writing skills.
- Strong professional English, minimum C1, to follow guidelines and give detailed feedback in English.
- Deep understanding of Estonian grammar, spelling, punctuation, cases, vowel harmony, word order, compound words, verb forms, tone and style, and ability to explain what is wrong and how to fix it.
- Comfortable handling multiple registers, from formal to conversational, professional, educational and public-facing Estonian.
