Senior Java Software Engineer – Banking (Accounts and Deposits)

About the role

Avalanche Laboratory, a project-based software consultancy delivering custom solutions across the EU and beyond, is looking for a Senior Java Engineer with database development experience to build and enhance core banking services in the Accounts and Deposits domain. The work is on a large-scale banking project in a pan-European environment, with on-site presence in Tallinn.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable core banking services using Java.
• Maintain legacy systems using Oracle PL/SQL.
• Ensure the quality, performance and stability of mission-critical systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features.
• Contribute to system architecture with clean, future-proof solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Typical experience of 7-10 years as a consultant in the role and competence area; deep competence, able to lead others and act as a mentor.
• Fluent English and comfort in an international environment.
• Agile mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
• On-site presence three days per week in Tallinn is mandatory.

Required skills

• Java and Spring Boot.
• Oracle PL/SQL for legacy systems.
• REST APIs; GraphQL is a plus.
• QA practices, cloud or DevOps experience.
• Beneficial: Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Clean Code and Clean Architecture, GitHub Copilot.

• Employment in Estonia up to 4,300 EUR gross, or a B2B rate of 40-45 EUR/hour depending on seniority and experience.
