Simulation Engineer
Helsing · Tallinn
Job description
About the role
Helsing is a defence AI company that uses simulation to train and test autonomy at scale, long before anything touches real hardware. You will join a team that owns a system for simulating large-scale 3D worlds with hundreds of actors, rendered in real time, and work on the internals of the simulation stack.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain simulation platform internals: subsystem architecture, replication and multiplayer, performance profiling, and the interfaces used by other systems to orchestrate simulation.
- Compose simulated platforms from sensor, communications, situational awareness, effector and control-loop models, and reason about underlying physics such as flight dynamics, rigid-body behaviour, collision and line of sight.
- Own the trade-off between fidelity, throughput and engineering cost, validate results against subject matter experts, integration tests or downstream outcomes, and integrate 3D models, animations and effects from Content Engineers.
- Investigate simulation bugs to bridge the gap from the simulation to a reference model.
- Write production code, decide how work is validated, and turn mission requirements from subject matter experts into reusable simulation models.
Required profile
- Has built real simulations beyond toy projects, especially with game engines such as Unreal, Unity or Godot, including gameplay frameworks, replication and profiling tooling.
- Writes production code with proper software engineering practice, including version control discipline and designing for the long term.
- Reasons fluently about the trade-off between physical fidelity and simulation throughput, and translates domain expert input into models and behaviours.
Nice to have
- Entity-component-system architectures or agent-based modelling.
- Distributed simulation standards such as HLA, DIS, RPR-FOM, NETN or FMI.
- Physics-heavy simulation (CFD, finite element methods, multi-body dynamics, trajectory and 6DoF modelling).
- RF, electronic warfare or radar simulation, and familiarity with reinforcement learning environment APIs, software-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop validation.
- Rust, CUDA or MATLAB and Simulink.
