Engineering Lead - AUP Risk Controls
Wise · Tallinn
Job description
About the role
The AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) team, part of Fincrime, designs, builds and operates the controls that monitor transactions and customer activity to detect prohibited use of Wise. As Engineering Lead you will head a collaborative, cross-functional squad of data scientists, analysts, compliance managers and designers, defining the product and technical vision together with the Product Manager, Compliance Lead and Lead Data Scientist.
Key responsibilities
- Risk detection: close coverage gaps and scale detection systems by integrating advanced machine learning models and building controls that spot AUP violations.
- Operations: architect automated workflows and internal tooling to lower the cost per case and median handling times for operations analysts.
- Architecture: keep services highly available, resilient and secure, with monitoring, observability and decoupled architectures that scale with global volume.
Required profile
- Proven experience leading, mentoring and developing software engineers in an agile environment (Tech Lead or Engineering Manager).
- Solid engineering background with modern languages and an understanding of frontend frameworks such as React and TypeScript.
- Experience designing, deploying and maintaining scalable, concurrent microservices in the cloud, including high-throughput message processing and asynchronous workflows.
- Product and risk mindset: understands operational bottlenecks and can turn complex policy mandates into incremental engineering milestones.
- Excellent communication with engineers, data scientists and non-technical business partners.
Nice to have
- FinTech or financial crime experience (AML, sanctions, fraud, policy enforcement).
- Partnering with data scientists to productionize and scale machine learning models.
- Familiarity with AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes and GitHub Actions.
- Building or optimising high-volume case-management or back-office tools.
What we offer
- Starting salary of 80,000 to 100,000 EUR annual gross plus RSUs.
- An international, diverse and inclusive team.
