Founding Engineer, Real-Time Vision

About the role

Kuhaken builds THEIA, a tracking engine that turns two cameras into a drone detection and 3D tracking system measuring position, range and velocity in real time, with no radar, radio or neural networks. As the first engineering hire, you will work directly with the two founders to turn THEIA into software that runs in real time on an edge computer and can be built into partner weapon systems. The role is remote in Europe, with travel to Estonia for testing.

Key responsibilities

• In the first six months, move the core tracking pipeline from Python to C++ or Rust and run it on an edge computer you help choose.
• Integrate visible-light, SWIR and thermal cameras and keep calibration accurate outdoors as well as in the lab.
• Track several drones at once, with deterministic output to the partner's fire-control system.
• Build the protection and licensing layer: encrypted builds, offline licence keys and tamper-proof updates.
• Set up the code structure, test suite and CI/CD.
• Later, hire the next four engineers, act as technical contact for partners and grow into Head of Engineering.

Required profile

• C++ or Rust in production on embedded or real-time software; Rust users should also be comfortable in C++.
• Experience moving a Python system to a compiled, real-time setting.
• A degree in computer science, electrical engineering or physics, or equivalent experience.
• Experience taking a prototype or research system and making it work in the field.
• Experience with SWIR, InGaAs or thermal cameras, drones, robotics or defence is a plus.

Required skills

• Computer vision, ideally stereo: calibration, disparity or 3D reconstruction.
• Embedded or real-time software development in C++ or Rust.
