Senior Software Engineer – Engineering Systems

About the role

Microsoft's Intelligent Conversation and Communications Cloud (IC3) powers real-time customer conversations across its first- and second-party solutions. The Microsoft Development Center Tallinn is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Engineering Systems team, which builds internal tools that enable a highly automated and robust engineering pipeline. The role involves owning large-scale engineering systems and services that support build, test and release pipelines at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Own and drive the design, implementation and evolution of large-scale engineering systems and tools supporting build, test and release pipelines.
• Lead end-to-end feature crews or major platform initiatives, from design through production deployment and live-site ownership.
• Make architecture and design decisions balancing productivity, reliability, scalability, security and maintainability.
• Act as a technical authority in focus areas such as CI execution, test reliability, release gating and platform observability.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure and program teams to clarify ownership and platform contracts.
• Raise the engineering bar through design and code reviews, operational rigor and good practice guidance.
• Diagnose and resolve complex production issues across multiple services and layers of the stack.
• Mentor other engineers and shape team engineering culture.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, plus solid technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript or Python, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud background check every two years after hire.

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or a Bachelor's degree with extensive engineering experience.
• Solid experience with distributed systems, cloud-based services, CI/CD systems and developer productivity platforms.
• Familiarity with Azure and production operations (monitoring, alerting, incident response).
• Experience with engineering standards, quality gates and platform contracts, and a demonstrated interest in mentorship.
